Pfäffikersee Bike Loop

Helmets on, lake ahead: The 12.2-km loop around Lake Pfäffikersee is an easy family ride packed with worthwhile stops along the way. Just a few minutes in, the first detour takes you back 2,000 years. At Kastell Irgenhausen, kids wander between towers and ancient walls in one of northeastern Switzerland’s best-preserved Roman fort complexes.

Soon the route draws closer to the water again. Families pedal past reed beds and through protected wetlands, with the hills of the Zurich Oberland rising in the distance. On hot days, Lido Auslikon is an easy excuse to park the bikes for a while. Kids splash along the pebble beach, swim out to the floating rafts or take the plunge from the tree.

Back in the saddle, the route continues to Seegräben. At Juckerfarm, kids circle the farm on pedal tractors, visit the goats or scramble around the straw fortress, while parents take a coffee break or stock up on snacks from the farm shop. Back by the lake, the route finishes with a visit to the nature center, where families can learn more about the reserve and the plants and wildlife that call it home.

Good to know: After the nature center, bikes must be walked for around 250 meters before the lakeside promenade, as cycling is not permitted on this section.
