It was modest, did not travel far and only ran for six decades. Nevertheless, the Sernftalbahn has shaped the Glarus “Chlytal” like no other. It brought modernity to the valley. It connected the villages of Elm, Matt and Engi with the big, wide world.

Today, the magic of the “Bähndli” is revived in the exhibition “A Mountain Valley on the Move” in the former station building. Freight is once again piled up in the goods shed. In the waiting room, locals exchange stories with long-distance travellers. Audio stations, photographs, plans, model railways and original objects tell of days gone by. Bright red railcars and goods wagons invite visitors to explore, while children embark one the kids’ trail and and take a ride on the SeTB garden railway.
