This easy 13.7-km bike loop starts among the historic houses of Schwyz’s main square, with the Mythen peaks towering overhead. Families roll downhill to the Forum of Swiss History, where knights, old mule trails and stories from Switzerland’s early days turn the first stop into a trip back in time.

Then it’s back on the bikes and farther downhill. After about seven kilometers, Lake Lucerne comes into view, stretching between the mountains like a shimmering fjord. At the “Place of the Swiss Abroad”, families can park the bikes for a while, take in the turquoise water and, on warm days, cool their feet in the lake.

The ride loops back through Ibach, but there’s one more good reason to stop. The old Spinnerei is now a huge indoor playground, where kids clamber over obstacles, cross rope bridges and work their way up the bouldering wall. Back in Schwyz, the day wraps up at Dany’s over dinner, with one last visit to the play area before heading home. By then, even the kids may be ready to call it a day.

Good to know: Bikes aren’t allowed on two short sections of the route, so you’ll need to hop off and push for a few minutes.
