A schnitzel tower with mashed potatoes, surprise pasta or a made-to-order kids’ burger – young diners at Schönegg in Wädenswil have plenty to get excited about. Grown-ups can choose from seasonal Swiss favorites such as crispy Lake Zurich perch or Zurich-style sliced veal, prepared wherever possible with ingredients from the region. For a more communal meal, book the “Grandmother’s Table,” where bowls and platters are set in the middle for everyone to share. Sundays are made for the traditional “Buure-Zmorge,” a generous farmhouse brunch with crisp rösti, freshly prepared egg dishes, Birchermüesli, honey straight from the comb, cold cuts and something sweet.

The setting has all the warmth of a traditional Swiss country restaurant, with plenty of wood and a large fireplace inside. Outside, the spacious terrace opens onto sweeping views across Lake Zurich. Between courses, kids can take a spin on the Bobby Cars near the entrance or disappear into the separate playroom, stocked with a playhouse, books, building blocks and a game console.

After the meal, many families head behind the restaurant for a round of mini golf. Right next door, a small animal area is home to goats, turtles and birds. And for anyone with energy still to burn, the playground has climbing structures, an extra-long slide, balance beams and plenty of room for a game of tag.
