Tucked away on a sun-drenched meadow along the river Sihl, somewhere between Zürich and Zug, «Sihlmättli» feels like a slice of the past – an old farmhouse turned cozy countryside restaurant. Most visitors arrive on foot, following the river’s winding path and settle onto the broad terrace when the sun is out. While parents kick back and soak in the calm, kids are already off again dashing across the grass, befriending donkeys and chickens, scaling the playground or diving into the Sihl to cool off.
Eventually, everyone gathers at the table. The house specialty, whole trout, has been a local favourite for decades. Meanwhile, the rest of the menu follows the rhythm of the region and the seasons, with ingredients often plucked straight from the garden or nearby Sihlwald forest. If you lose track of time or the weather turns, just head inside and huddle up in the warm «Stübli» dining room.
