Rigi Alpine Experience Trail

Across flower-filled meadows with wide-open mountain views, this hike becomes a true discovery trail: families follow stories, collect stamps and get a real feel for life in the Alps.

Rigi Staffel
  • Rigi Staffel to Rigi Scheidegg (or the reverse)
  • 7 km, approx. 200 m elevation gain
  • 8 stations with a booklet for stamping and QR codes
  • Open May to October
  • Fire pits and mountain restaurants along the way
  • Farm shop at Rigi First alpine dairy
  • Stroller-friendly

Cowbells ringing, meadows in bloom and views stretching from the Mythen peaks to Lake Lucerne – on this themed trail, a hike turns into a full-on mountain adventure. Families start at Rigi Staffel or Rigi Scheidegg and follow Margrit, an alpine farmer who shares stories of life on the alp via QR codes – covering dairy farming, traditions and everyday life.

Kids pick up a stamp booklet at the mountain station and set off with Reto and his herding dog Barry. At eight hands-on stations, they collect letters for a mystery word, ring cowbells, listen to the traditional Alp blessing, see how milk becomes cheese and learn the difference between a cow and a bull.

The roughly 7 km route, with around 200 meters of elevation gain, follows well-maintained paths and is stroller-friendly. When little legs get tired, covered picnic and grill spots and mountain restaurants offer a welcome break. At the farm shop of Rigi First alpine dairy, you can pick up local cheese and specialties. And if, at the end, there’s still energy left, detour to the playground near the Mountain Restaurant Rigi Scheidegg.
