Perched at 2,273 meters, Legler Hut SAC sits in the heart of the Freiberg Kärpf, Europe’s oldest wildlife reserve. The shortest route starts at Mettmenalp, leading hikers past alpine lakes and through spectacular mountain scenery. The trail requires good stamina and sure-footedness, making it best suited to families with older children and previous mountain hiking experience.
Once at the hut, the pace slows. Children can try their first climbing routes in the nearby climbing garden or keep an eye out for marmots and ibex, while adults relax on the sunny terrace and take in the panoramic views. In the evening, hut keeper Simone serves freshly prepared meals before everyone settles into cozy two-, four- or six-bed rooms for a restful night’s sleep.
