In the valley of Goldingen, gold diggers once carved narrow tunnels deep into the mountain in search of their fortune. Today, visitors aged seven and up can follow in their footsteps on guided tours through the old mine. The adventure begins with a hike through the valley, where muddy trails follow a rushing stream past waterfalls and into a landscape that still feels wonderfully untamed.
Dark, damp and surprisingly narrow in places, the tunnel leads deep into the mountain. Step inside and you’ll quickly get a sense of what life was like for the gold diggers who once worked here. All you need are sturdy waterproof shoes, a flashlight or headlamp, and a little courage. The passage can be challenging at times, but above all, it’s a real adventure. And as sparkling minerals catch the light, it’s ceasy to imagine the dreams of fortune that once filled these tunnels.
