Birka Bird Paradise

Between Mauren and Schaanwald, families step into a riot of birdsong. In eleven aviaries, more than 140 feathered residents flutter and call. Colorful parakeets and parrots from four continents mingle with regal peacocks, curious pheasants, ducks and chickens. Calls and whistles echo from every direction, while information panels reveal fascinating details about each bird’s origins and way of life.

By the clubhouse, a kiosk tempts with snacks and three playful dolphins splash water into an octagonal fountain. Right next door, the playground continues the avian adventure: kids balance along the “pheasant path,” climb through the “parrot forest” and bounce on spring rides like the woodpecker seesaw, which taps with every move. A loop trail links all the action, with benches for a breather and a wooden platform to spy on goats in their pen.

If there’s still energy left, the adjacent nature reserve beckons with its wetlands, rare plants and – if luck’s on your side – a spotted frog or two along the way.
