Binoculars ready? On this family bike loop through the Ruggeller Riet nature reserve, keep an eye out for birds and beaver tracks, then stop for a break along the Rhine.

- Rhine embankment and sandbanks
- Family-friendly bike loop
- Weienau barbecue area
In the Ruggeller Riet, families pedal along quiet nature trails and bike paths through a 90-hectare nature reserve of peatland, ponds, wetlands and traditional meadows. Bring binoculars: rare birds, insects and amphibians thrive here. Reed warblers dart between the reeds, white storks stride through the damp grass and, in May, Siberian irises add flashes of blue to the landscape.
The 11.5 km loop also passes the former border guard station and the Weienau barbecue area, with picnic tables and a covered shelter. From there, the route follows the Rhine embankment back toward the starting point in Ruggell. Along the way, families can stop by the river or on the sandbanks for a break and, in summer, a chance to cool off. Look closely along the trail and you may even spot signs of the beavers that live here.
Tip: Just under two kilometers into the ride, there’s a short, steep climb. Younger kids can simply hop off and push their bikes for this section.
