Bike Route Technorama

This family bike ride through eastern Winterthur keeps changing character as you go. Leave the busy train station behind, pedal through residential neighborhoods and before long the route opens onto flat paths between meadows and fields. About five kilometers in, Hegi Castle appears ahead. Park the bikes and step back into the Middle Ages, exploring old walls, historic rooms and a garden planted with traditional vegetable varieties.

Back on the bikes, it is only a short ride to a completely different world. At Technorama, ice flowers grow and tornadoes swirl, while outside raindrops turn into music and a cloud hangs between two steel walls. Around 500 exhibits invite kids and grown-ups to touch, test and experiment for themselves. When everyone needs a break, spread out a picnic in the garden, grab something from the restaurant buffet or fire up one of the grills.

Later, the ride quiets down again. The Chrebsbach burbles alongside the trail for a stretch as you pedal back toward town. Fields slowly give way to houses and streets until Winterthur station comes back into view and the loop ends right where it started.

Good to know: There is one short 89-meter stretch where cycling is not allowed, so you will need to walk your bikes.
