I spy with my little eye something that is… green. At 450 million years old, mosses are the oldest land plants on earth and true natural wonders. They filter dust, store water, provide shelter for all sorts of animals and act as natural air conditioners. As bioindicators, they also reveal how our environment is doing. Around 1,100 species of moss grow in Switzerland — 670 of them in Glarus, where the red, acidic Verrucano rock creates a unique habitat.
On the «Moss Nature Trail», nature lovers can dive into this world with the “Glarus Forest Pearls” (Glarner Waldperlen) app. With the scent of moss in your nose and birdsong in your ears, hike from Sool to the ruins of Sola Castle and around the Schlossbüchel. Along the way, discover fascinating facts, solve riddles with woodpecker “Toggi” and enjoy playful forest games.
