I spy with my little eye something that is… green. At 450 million years old, mosses are the oldest land plants on earth and true miracle creations. They filter dust, store water, serve as shelters for alls sort of animals and as a natural air conditioner. As bio-indicators, they also tell us how our environment is doing. Around 1,100 species of moss grow in Switzerland, 670 of them in Glarus, where red, acidic verrucano rock provides a habitat for special types.

On the «Moss Nature Trail», nature lovers can immerse themselves in their world with the app “Glarus Forest Pearls” (Glarner Waldperlen). With the scent of moss in their noses and bird song in their ears, they hike from Sool to the ruins of Sola Castle and around the Schlossbüchel. Along the way, they read and listen to many interesting facts, solve riddles with woodpecker “Toggi” and play forest games.
