For over 100 years, the people of Zug have been aiming high – with great success. A bus runs directly from Zug station to Schönegg. From there, a modern, wheelchair-accessible funicular railway takes visitors up the city’s family-friendly mountain. At the top, at around 1,000 metres above sea level, not only the magnificent cherry trees are worth lingering. Around 80 kilometres of marked hiking trails, including three easy circular routes, lead to protected high moors and diverse flora and fauna. Along the way, benches, grill spots and restaurants invite you to take a break while you marvel at the views of glittering Lake Zug and the surrounding mountain peaks.

There is also a lot of fun to be had all year around. Equipped with a treasure hunt map, families embark on the Zugiblubbi adventure trail, hire scooters or explore the Schattwäldli adventure playground. In winter, the trip is worthwhile too. Then, four winter hiking trails, 27 km of cross-country skiing trails, a 2.5 km long toboggan run and a children’s ski lift await those who want to get away from it all.
