Brown bears, moose and rare wild horses – Zurich’s Sihlwald is full of surprises. What began as a “wild garden” over 150 years ago is now a scientifically managed animal park.
Nineteen native and formerly native animal species have found a home in generous enclosures. Wildcats and lynx roam the thicket. Boars wallow in the mud. House mice dance cheekily on a kitchen table.
In the western part, a short journey through times leads to the “Knochenwald” (bone forest) and the “Feuerhöhle” (fire cave) with wall paintings. When all circular trails have been completed, the adventure continues in the playground. There, a zipline keeps the kids entertained while you wait for sausages from the grill.
