Treno Gottardo

The most beautiful connection between north and south leads over the Gotthard with its rugged alpine landscapes and impressive railroad structures.

  • Zurich – Locarno: 3 h 19 min
  • Family compartment with illustrated pictures
  • Hourly alternating departure from Basel and Zurich
  • Space for baby carriages at the boarding gates
  • Two bistro areas with vending machines
  • Seat reservation possible

On the Treno Gottardo, families experience the diversity of Switzerland in one train ride. From the urban centers of Zurich and Basel, the connection leads to Switzerland’s beautiful central region. In Arth-Goldau, the landscape of Lake Lucerne and Mount Rigi as well as the Nature Reserve and Wildlife Park Goldau already entice families to interrupt their journey and explore. But the onward train ride following the historic Gotthard panorama route is spectacular, too.

Along turquoise lakes and through alpine mountain landscapes, over impressive viaducts, the bronze train carries its precious freight. In particular, the view of the church of Wassen is legendary, appearing three times in front of the train windows because of the helical tunnels. The journey continues over and through the Gotthard massif to ever more southerly climes, all the way to the sunny film city of Locarno, where a bit of dolce vita awaits with palm trees, pasta and gelati.
