Zurich Succulent Plant Collection
Plant lovers can find one of the world’s most important collections of succulent plants in Zurich.
- One of the largest specialty collections worldwide
- Over 4,500 types of succulent plants from 78 plant families
- Cacti, agaves, aloes, and other thick-leaved plants
- On the left shore of Lake Zurich
The Succulent Plant Collection of the City of Zurich can look back on a long history: it has been home to one of the largest and most important specialist collections of succulent plants – that is, plants with thick, fleshy leaves or stems for storing water – since 1931. Around 50% of all known species of succulent plants in the world can be found here.
An educational program for adults and children examines the beauty, diversity, and fragility of succulent plants, as well as their ability to adapt to their special habitats.
The Succulent Plant Collection also features temporary exhibitions on botanical phenomena. All the information in the show collection is available in German and English.
