Morgarten Trail
Along this fun-packed trail, young knights can follow the trail of the legendary Battle of Morgarten.
- Theme trail on Swiss history
- 7 animated information stations
- Approximately two-hour hike
The Battle of Morgarten, which the Swiss Confederates won due to their clever use of the terrain, is said to have taken place in 1315. To this day, the battle is surrounded by controversy and shrouded in legend. However, the story is of great significance – indeed, even legendary – for the Swiss Confederation, which is why since the battle’s 700th anniversary a theme trail has led through the original site.
Seven animated information stations located between Sattel Church and the Morgarten Monument on Lake Ägeri relate what – according to legend ‒ happened. Audio stories featuring Duke Leopold von Habsburg or court jester Kuony von Stocken make the trail all the more fascinating and real.
The hike along the trail takes around two hours and, equipped with sturdy shoes, is great fun for all the family. At the Schornen activity station there is also an information center for people interested in finding out more.
