Before the adventure in one of the largest cave systems in the world begins, kids and adults slip into red overalls and green rubber boots – these are important, because the temperature in the cave is at a constant 6°C and the air humidity is at almost 100%.

The hike begins, the headlamp is on, and the eyes slowly get used to the darkness. Over the course of a million years, the water has washed a finely branched cave system into the limestone. Future explorers crawl through narrow passages, climb up a slippery rock with the help of a rope, and run down a sandy slope. During the tour, participants learn interesting facts about the history and discovery of the cave, as well as the animals that live in it.

Adults with children can choose between the short 2-hour tour from the age of 5, where sure-footedness is sufficient, the 3-hour beginners’ tour from the age of 6 with a detour into the side passages and a 3.5-hour expedition called “Hölloch-Parcours” from the age of 9 with crawling and climbing sections.

Those who just wish to get a taste of the cave air, can visit the first 700 m in the built-out part of the cave that was developed over 100 years ago and has paths and stairs. The adventurous day expeditions can be booked from November to mid-March and are suitable for anyone with a good level of fitness. Families can take part with children aged 10 and over.
