Freuler Palace in Näfels

In the impressive residential palace, a museum and a tricky children's quiz await bright little visitors.

  • Time travel to the 17th century
  • Magnificent baroque palace
  • Riddles
  • Children’s birthday party “A crown for your birthday”

There is no king in the Glarus village of Näfels, but there is a palace: the Freuler Palace. It was built by Kaspar Freuler, a Swiss colonel who became wealthy in the 17th century while serving under the French kings. To explore the magnificent building and the museum inside, curious visitors pick up a free folding brochure at the entrance. With it, clever guessers puzzle their way through the state rooms and answer tricky questions like: How many stylized Fleur-de-Lys lily blossoms can be found in the palace?

Those who walk through the museum with their eyes open will also learn something about the realities of life in the past, when Swiss people went abroad as mercenaries or children worked in the Glarus cloth factories. At the end, all the young detectives who have successfully completed the quiz will receive a small souvenir.
