Elefantenbach Ravine

In the middle of a little stream, the stone elephant stands motionless and invites hiking groups to splash around during their well-deserved break.

  • Life-size elephant statue in the stream
  • Start/Finish: Zürich Burgwies
  • Hiking time: ca. 2 h
  • Distance: 7 km
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Barbecue area near the elephant statue
  • Two restaurants along the way
  • Suitable for families with children
  • Accessible for strollers

The adventure starts at the tram stop Zürich Burgwies in the direction of Elefantenbachweg. Soon the city seems far away and the hikers find themselves in the middle of the forest and in an impressive gorge. After a while, a barbecue area offers the perfect opportunity to take a break and picnic, and a life-size elephant statue in the small stream invites little explorers to splash around. A little tip: the adventure playground Witikon is less than a 10-minute walk away.

The route continues out of the forest through the beautiful village center of Witikon with its old timber-framed houses. If you are still hungry or hungry again, you can stop at the Witikon restaurant or the Trichtenhausermühle inn. Through the Wehrenbachtobel gorge, past reed meadows and springs, the circular hike leads back to the starting point.
