Advent in Zurich with Kids: The Best Things to Do in the Run-Up to Christmas
“How many more sleeps until Christmas?” Twinkling lights along Bahnhofstrasse, candle wax on little fingers and a visit from St. Nicholaus in the forest: Here's how families in Zurich make the countdown to Christmas part of the fun.
The cold and wet won’t spoil the fun at the Christmas Market inside Zurich’s main train station. One of Switzerland’s largest indoor Christmas markets, it’s home to a towering Christmas tree and plenty of festive stalls. For something smaller and more traditional, wander through the winding lanes of Niederdorf to the Dörfli Christmas Market, the city’s oldest. Kids can even bring their own skates and glide around the Rosenhof ice rink for free during the day, right in the heart of the Christmas village. For a bigger stretch of ice, head up above the city to the Dolder ice rink.
