Cultural experiences and nature excursions for the whole family – strung along a route like pearls on a string: the Voralpen-Express takes travelers comfortably from central to eastern Switzerland, offering a rich selection of excursions and adventures along the way. From the cultural city of Lucerne with its picture-book panorama, the historic Chapel Bridge and the interactive Swiss Museum of Transport, the copper-colored train carries its guests to the foot of Mount Rigi, where the Nature Reserve and Wildlife Park Goldau beckons. Outside the windows, the Mythen pass by and, at Rothenthurm, the largest contiguous raised bog in Switzerland.
Near Rapperswil, the Seedamm opens up beautiful views of Lake Zurich, while the castle and the Knie’s Children’s Zoo await explorers. Continuing through the hilly Toggenburg region with its abundance of cheese, the Voralpen-Express rolls over the Sitter Viaduct, Switzerland’s highest railroad viaduct, to the cultural city of St. Gallen with its abbey district and impressive monastery library.
